FH Council (Austria)
Legal framework
The “Fachhochschule Studies Act” serves as the legal basis for the operations of the FH Council and contains the prerequisites and procedures for the accreditation of FH programmes as well as the conditions for awarding the institutional designation “Fachhochschule”. The FH Council interprets the legal requirements by setting up guidelines and quality standards for accreditation and evaluation.
The FH Council falls under the supervision of the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture (BMBWK). This supervision is limited to the observance of laws and regulations and the fulfilment of FH Council’s duties. The independence of the FH Council is assured by the organisational structure and is guaranteed by law. The members are not bound by any ministerial directives.
