Legal framework
The basic criteria for accreditation and also the main tasks of the Austrian Accreditation Council are set out in the University Accreditation Act. The ÖAR falls under the supervision of the Ministry for Science and Research. This supervision is limited to the observance of laws and regulations and the fulfilment of ÖAR’s duties. The independence of the ÖAR is assured by the organisational structure and is guaranteed by law. The members are not bound by any ministerial directives
