Legal framework
The PKA has been established by The Act of 20th July 2001, amending the existing Higher Education Act. The Law on Higher Education, adopted by the Parliament on 27 July 2005, redefined the objectives of the State Accreditation Committee.
The current legal basis for the activities of the PKA is the Act of 27 July 2005, the Law on Higher Education (LoHE), adopted by the Sejm (lower house of the Parliament) of the Republic of Poland. The LoHE defines in a general way the organisational structure and tasks of the Committee, leaving it for the Committee itself to lay down the powers of its bodies and its own operational procedures in its Statutes. The Statutes are adopted by the Committee at a plenary meeting.
