Information about visa and residence

For concrete information and advice about visa and residence you can visit the Austrian Embassy or Consulate in your country. They will help you with the proper formalities for entering Austria.

Entry and Residence Regulations

Within three working days of entry in Austria and also in case you change your domicile (“Wohnsitz”) you have to register with the municipal authorities (“Magistratisches Bezirksamt” in Vienna; “Magistrat” or “Gemeindeamt” in the other university locations).
They will offer you the relevant registration forms (“Meldezettel”). If you are staying at a guesthouse or a hotel, the landlord/landlady or the management will normally take care of the registration.
